Reusing water in the world’s oldest desert.

Nestled deep in the Namib, the world’s oldest living desert, &Beyond Sossusvlei Desert Lodge offers guests an unparalleled experience of nature and culture. Ten suites, plus a family Star Dune Suite, feature private plunge pools, skylights for stargazing, fold-away glass walls, and shaded verandas. Every design detail prioritizes comfort, immersion, and sustainability, ensuring guests enjoy luxury that respects the fragile desert environment.

Operating in such a remote and arid location posed a critical challenge: how to deliver the luxury of private pools, outdoor showers, and lush landscaping while minimizing water consumption and supporting off-grid energy systems.

The solution.

Hydraloop installed a water recycling system in each of the ten lodges. The system collects grey water from showers and baths, treats it, and then reuses it for: flushing toilets, topping up private plunge pools to offset evaporation and rinsing dust off solar panels powering each suite.

By integrating Hydraloop into each lodge, &Beyond was able to maintain the luxurious guest experience while dramatically reducing potable water consumption.
