Victoria's first greywater recycling system trial

Press release

Hydraloop launches first large-scale water recycling trial in Victoria, Australia

Minister for Water Gayle Tierney officially opens $220,000 technology trial at TAFE in the town of Gordon Victoria (Australia), 12 September 2025 – Hydraloop welcomes the official opening of the Victorian Advanced Grey Water Recycling System Trial by Minister for Water Gayle Tierney and commends the Government for its investment in advanced water recycling. The $220,000 trial is a first for Victoria and marks an important step towards a circular water future.

During her visit to TAFE in the town of Gordon, the Minister officially launched the trial using Hydraloop’s advanced water recycling system. The demonstration site includes a purpose-built bathroom and laundry, enabling students to use the installation for training, development and testing.

Leadership and collaboration

Hydraloop CEO Arthur Valkieser thanked the Minister and project partners:

“Hydraloop is committed to supporting Victoria’s transition to a circular water future, and we praise the leadership of our partners who have made this possible. Our technology already enables families and businesses in 28 countries to recycle 25–45% of their water use. Thanks to this trial, we look forward to Victorians also being able to contribute to water recycling – achieving a major step forward in water savings.”

Pilot projects in multiple settings

The trial will test seven Hydraloop systems in different environments. Barwon Water is installing three systems in caravan parks along the Surf Coast and Great Ocean Road, including Australia’s first large-scale unit at the Torquay Foreshore Caravan Park. Greater Western Water is piloting Victoria’s first in-home Hydraloop system.

Quote from Minister Gayle Tierney

“This trial shows Victoria’s water sector embracing new ideas and working with our TAFEs to build the technology needed for the future. New ways to reuse the water from our sinks and showers will have positive impacts for all Victorians – every litre of water we can recycle is one less litre drawn from our waterways.”
