How it came to be

Faith and water innovation coming together.

The Majid Al Futtaim Mosque at Tilal Al Ghaf is a landmark achievement in sustainable design, proudly recognized as the first Net Positive Mosque in the Middle East. Designed to meet BREEAM "Excellent" standards, the mosque is entirely powered by renewable energy, generating surplus electricity for the community while embodying a new era of eco-conscious religious architecture.

In a region where water scarcity is a pressing concern, the mosque needed a system to reduce potable water consumption, recycle greywater, and integrate seamlessly with other water-saving initiatives, all while maintaining hygiene and operational efficiency.

How it came to be

The first net positive mosque in the Middle East.

Four Hydraloop H600 systems were installed on site to collect and treat greywater, which is then reused for toilet flushing and other non-potable applications. Treated Sewage Effluent (TSE) from the Tilal Al Ghaf Central Plant complements the Hydraloop systems, creating a robust circular water economy.

This dual approach allows the mosque to recycle thousands of liters of water daily, reducing reliance on municipal water supplies while supporting a mission to achieve net-positive carbon and water goals by 2040. Hydraloop's technology ensures treated water is safe, clear, and disinfected, enabling full confidence in reuse for high-traffic religious spaces.
