The story

Located in Vila do Conde, Portugal, Dom Pedro IV School is taking a major step toward a more sustainable future.
The school's sports hall generates significant volumes of wastewater from daily shower use. Traditionally, this water would be discharged directly into the sewer system, while large amounts of drinking water continued to be consumed for non-potable applications.
At the same time, reducing water consumption and educating students through real-world sustainability initiatives became an important priority for the school and the municipality. The challenge was to implement a safe, reliable, and cost-effective solution capable of reducing the building's environmental footprint without compromising hygiene or operational efficiency.

How it came to be

Turning daily water use into sustainable action

As part of the modernization of its sports hall facilities, the school implemented an innovative greywater recycling system powered by Hydraloop technology, reinforcing its commitment to environmental responsibility and resource efficiency.
In collaboration with our Portuguese Hydraloop partner Environmental Waves, Dom Pedro IV School installed 2 Hydraloop H600 systems in the sports hall. The system collects water from showers, treats it on-site, and safely reuses for non potable uses.
