The story

Located on the Island of Hawaiʻi, the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel is an iconic luxury resort known for its deep-rooted commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.

The ambition of Mauna Kea Beach Hotel is to preserve and protect Hawaiʻi's most precious resource: water. The key challenge was achieving this while continuing to deliver an uncompromised luxury guest experience. Water conservation has long been embedded in the resort's operations, supported by efficient irrigation systems, low-flow fixtures, and a strong focus on regenerative tourism. As part of a $200-million revitalization of the hotel, the resort sought to further reduce its reliance on potable water by reusing water streams already available on site.

How it came to be

Circular water reuse in a luxury resort environment

To support this ambition, the hotel installed 8 Hydraloop H600 devices in a Cascade set up. The systems recycle shower water directly for irrigation, significantly reducing the demand for drinking water to maintain the resort's landscapes. The installation was realized in partnership with WAIEA Water.

By recycling shower water on site, Mauna Kea Beach Hotel demonstrates that luxury hospitality and responsible water management can coexist, reducing environmental impact while maintaining the resort's high standards for aesthetics, comfort, and operational efficiency.
